After a wonderful summer vacation that ended way too soon, the school year is upon us! Thank you for including Late July in your child's lunchbox this year! In celebration of all the lunches being packed for the new school season I wanted to share this fun menu my boys came up with. I would love to see what you're packing too. With hundreds of lunches ahead of me, I can use all the good ideas I can get!
Lunch From Around the World - One of my 5 year old's favorite Apps ( Maverick Software's More Buffet ) allows him to choose a country off a world map and "cook" different native dishes. It's a really fun App and inspired my boys to plan a week of Around the World Lunches! Hope I can pull it off!
Burrito, Chips & Salsa: To make an easy kid-friendly salsa, add organic lime, onions & jalapenos to Bionaturae Organic Strained Tomatoes. Pack with our Organic Sea Salt Tortilla Chips. Serve papaya on the side! If you don't have time to make a burrito, I recommend Evol's 80% Organic Bean & Cheese.
Veggie Nori Rolls: Use Emerald Cove Organic Toasted Nori Sheets - This day was both of my boy's favorite! Let your kids decide what veggies to use & make them together the night before. We usually use carrots & cucumbers because they store well overnight. Edamame and Fuji apple slices on the side. (Japan's most popular apple)
Mini Italians: Rudi's Organic Whole Wheat Hot Dog Rolls, Organic Valley cheddar, organic ham, pickles, shredded lettuce, tomato, vinegar, olive oil & a touch of oregano. Thermos of minestrone soup. Grapes & a plum on the side.
Thanksgiving Sandwiches! Turkey on wheat with cranberry sauce & stuffing! Late July Dude Ranch Multigrain Chips! Uncle Matt's single serve organic orange juice! Homemade oatmeal raisin cookies and Peeled Snack's Farmer's Market Trio on the side!
Croque Monsieur or Madame (make it heart shaped). French string beans. Make it yourself parfait - pack Stonyfield Organic French Vanilla Yogurt, granola & berries separately for your child to mix together at lunch!
Happy back-to-school everyone, please share some of your good ideas!
